Our story
Joel Rekiel is a lifelong music industry professional who found his passion in immersive visual design. He spent years as a musician, then an audio engineer, then an artist manager, before moving into corporate audiovisual production. There he discovered video engineering, projection systems, LED video wall technology, and the creative potential of digital art.
The spark came earlier, in college in Florida, when he was mesmerized by the projection mapping shows at Disney. Later he became fascinated by massive architectural projections in Europe and interactive art festivals around the world. Seeing them in person inspired him to learn both the creative and the technical sides of projection mapping.
With unused projectors sitting in the AV shop, he began experimenting, learning, and creating. The official start came when Joel began designing custom content for the Daniels & Fisher Clocktower in downtown Denver. Watching how a large-scale projection setup worked lit the fire that led to this company.
His first major breakthrough was an immersive room with a custom 3D woolly mammoth and a real-time sunset synced to the actual Denver sunset, built for Celestia at ETHDenver. Blending digital art with the real world like that made projection mapping the focus of his creative life.
Who we are
Denver Projection Mapping is a solo-led creative studio. Joel handles most of the concept development, animation, 3D design, and technical setup, which keeps every project's vision and standard consistent.
For larger productions and quick-turnaround builds, he works with a network of experienced projectionists, animators, and designers. Primary Focus Media helped the studio get started by renting high-end projectors before it owned its own fleet.
How we work
- Custom animations designed for each space
- The right equipment for each project's requirements
- A collaborative process, so clients feel heard and involved from start to finish
- Each project treated as a unique visual story
